Terms of Service
Last updated: September 2026
1. About Byebyte
Byebyte provides IT asset disposal, data destruction, and recycling services. We operate nationwide across the United Kingdom. By requesting or using our services you agree to these terms. These terms apply to businesses and organisations we collect from; where they apply to a consumer, nothing in them limits your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
2. Our Services
We offer free collection of unwanted IT equipment, secure data erasure to NIST 800-88 standards, environmentally responsible recycling, and certificates of destruction. Our zero-to-landfill commitment means that 100% of collected equipment is either refurbished for reuse, donated to charitable causes, or recycled through approved channels — nothing goes to landfill.
3. Free Service — Conditions
Our collection and disposal service is provided free of charge on the condition that the items specified in your collection request are present and available at the agreed point of collection, at the agreed date and time, once the appointment has been confirmed by us in writing (by email or via the booking system).
All items included in your request must be present, accessible and ready for handover at the collection appointment agreed between you and Byebyte. The free service applies to the items listed in your request; any additional items you ask us to take on the day are collected at our discretion and do not change the free nature of the agreed collection.
4. Charges for Failed or Unfulfilled Collections
Because we commit vehicles, crews and processing capacity to every confirmed appointment, the following charges apply where a confirmed collection cannot be completed for reasons within your control. These charges reflect our reasonable losses and administration costs, and we will always try to rearrange your appointment free of charge before applying any charge.
Failed collection — £250
If, on the agreed date and time, the items are not available for collection — for example, there is no access to the premises, no authorised person to hand over the equipment, or the appointment is not honoured — a failed collection charge of £250 applies.
Items not provided — £10 per item (capped at £250)
If a collection goes ahead but any of the items specified in your request are unavailable, not provided, or cannot be handed over, a charge of £10 applies for each item we were not able to collect, capped at a maximum of £250 per collection.
Damaged & specialist items — £15 per item
A handling and processing charge of £15 per item applies to smashed or broken monitors and screens, printers and photocopiers, toner and ink cartridges, UPS units, and batteries. These items require specialist handling and recycling. Where your collection includes these items, the total charge will be confirmed with you in writing before we attend.
Locked devices — £10 per item
Devices must have all management software and account locks removed before collection. This includes MDM (mobile device management) enrolment, corporate or school management profiles, Google account locks (FRP) and iCloud / Apple ID activation locks. Any device handed over still locked or enrolled carries a processing charge of £10 per item, as such devices cannot be refurbished or recycled until the lock is removed. Please sign out of all accounts and unenroll devices before your collection date.
All prices on this page are excluding VAT. The failed collection and unprovided item charges will only apply where the failure is on your side. No charge applies where a cancellation or change is made with at least 24 hours' notice, where we cancel or reschedule the appointment, or where the failure is caused by circumstances beyond your reasonable control.
5. Payment of Charges
Any charge under section 4 will be itemised in an invoice sent to the contact details you provided, setting out the reason for the charge. Invoices are payable within 14 days of the invoice date. We will always notify you of a charge in writing before invoicing, and we are happy to discuss any dispute reasonably and in good faith.
6. Collection & Ownership
By arranging a collection with Byebyte, you confirm that you are the legal owner of the equipment or are authorised to dispose of it. Once collected, ownership of the equipment transfers to Byebyte. We will process, recycle, refurbish, or dispose of the equipment at our discretion in line with our environmental and data security commitments.
7. Data Destruction
We follow NIST 800-88 guidelines for data sanitisation. While we take every reasonable measure to ensure complete data destruction, we recommend that clients remove any highly sensitive data prior to collection where possible. Certificates of destruction are provided for all processed items upon request.
8. Zero to Landfill
Byebyte is committed to a zero-to-landfill policy. All equipment we collect is processed through one of the following streams: refurbishment and resale, donation to charitable projects, component-level recycling through approved WEEE-compliant facilities, or certified destruction. We do not send any equipment or materials to landfill under any circumstances.
9. No Minimums
We have no minimum quantity requirements for collections. Whether you have a single laptop or an entire office to clear, we provide the same professional service with free collection from your premises — subject to the conditions and charges set out in sections 3 and 4 above.
10. Liability
Byebyte takes reasonable care in handling all equipment. However, we accept no liability for data loss, damage during collection, or any consequential losses arising from our services. Our total liability is limited to the value of the service provided. We are not liable for any equipment left behind after a scheduled collection has been completed. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
11. Asset Recovery & Revenue Sharing
Where applicable, Byebyte may offer revenue sharing for high-value equipment that can be refurbished and resold. Any such arrangements will be agreed in writing prior to collection. Equipment with no resale value will be recycled at no cost to the client.
12. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to update these terms at any time. The version in force is the one published on this page at the time you request a collection. Changes will be posted here with an updated date, and the version applying to your collection is the one in force when your appointment is confirmed.
13. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
14. Contact
If you have questions about these terms, please contact us at office@byebyte.co.uk. Before booking, you can also review our services to check what we do and don't collect.
