Where the money comes from
Free business computer disposal is funded in two ways: the residual value of equipment that can be refurbished and resold, and the raw materials recovered from everything that cannot — aluminium, copper, steel, gold-plated contacts and rare earth magnets. Together they cover collection, processing and data destruction, so no invoice is needed for a typical office load.

- NIST 800-88 data sanitisation, or shredding for failed drives

What is not free
Honesty is cheaper than a surprise. Charges apply in a few situations: printers and MFDs, very small loads that need a dedicated journey, failed collections where nobody is on site or the equipment is not ready, and specialist handling such as long carries or out-of-hours access in a managed building. Our team will tell you before we book, and all quoted prices are minimums excluding VAT.
Preparing for the collection
- Back up anything you still need. Once a drive is sanitised it is gone.
- Deauthorise licences and MDM. Remove machines from device management, Apple/Microsoft enrolment and any software seats.
- Leave the drives in. Removing them yourself creates an untracked pile of media — the single biggest data risk in an office move.
- Pallet or stack in one place. A ground-floor room near the loading point halves the time on site.
- Note anything unusual. Server racks, UPS units with batteries, large displays.
The paperwork that protects you
Under UK GDPR you remain the data controller until the data is destroyed, and under the WEEE regulations you have a duty of care for the waste. So the two documents that matter are the certificate of destruction (with serial numbers) and the waste transfer documentation. Both should arrive without you chasing them.
